Activities.

The following are the many activities both on and off campus I was able to join in order to enhance my experience at UMD. Please contact me for more information or references.

College Park Scholars Program - Business, Society, and the Economy

This 2-year program consisted of a 1-credit course per semester detailing several large companies and their successes, as well as why some may have failed. We examined case studies and attended events to further our knowledge. The program comprised of many business students, as well as those from other disciplines. One of the most prominent activities we completed was learning about and discussing Cirque du Soleil, as well as attending 2 shows in order to experience our discussions in a live format. We also looked into Zappos and its customer service, and were able to attend a presentation lead by CEO Tony Hsieh. The final wrap-up of the program was tied to my experience with America Counts, and I was able to present to the class the takeaways I had from that volunteer tutoring program.

Phi Sigma Pi - National Co-Ed Honor Fraternity

After becoming a member of Phi Sigma Pi in my sophomore year of college, I was able to take part in many activities to uphold our tripod of fellowship, leadership, and scholarship. Some activities that I had participated in include baking bread for a charity called Shepherd's Table, learning how to tie-dye a shirt, assisting the SPCA in their shots clinic, catering at a football game to raise money, and playing intramural soccer with our team. I was also in the PR committee, which was in charge of raising the Fratenity's awareness on campus through social media efforts, flyering, and word-of-mouth.

America Counts - Tutor

As an America Counts tutor, I had the pleasure of tutoring three fourth graders at Mt. Rainier Elementary School in Mt. Rainier, MD twice a week for an entire semester. I was able to spend a few hours a week teaching the girls how to apply their math skills to finish homework, and was also able to teach through several math games. As a tutor, I was given the responsibility to keep students under control, focused, and engaged on work that otherwise may have been ignored. I gained confidence in my leadership abilities through tutoring and enjoyed the time I spent there each week.

Teaching Assistant - BMGT364: Management and Organization Theory

After taking both management courses BMGT364 and BMGT463 from Dr. Nicole Coomber, she was able to hire me to help her grade and manage inquiries from her current BMGT364 students. I had been given a unique opportunity to work alongside one of my mentors and was able to absorb even more management advice from her through our sessions together. Please contact me for her reference information.
